Spell Casters
Influence the world through the control of a mystical element called mana. Mana is the base spirit of everything in the world and those with training in the mystic arts (Thaumaturgy) or strong faith in a god (Faith) can control, force, or bend mana to perform spells.
Mage
A mage is an individual trained in the Thaumaturgy skill. The Thaumaturgy skill is the prerequisite to casting spells through mystic means. Mages are trained in numerous ways but general tend to require an apprenticeship to a trained mage. Individuals can apprentice through a magic guild (school), a solitary mage or even with extra planar entities. Mages cast spells by rolling 3d6 +spell level +Int to see if it succeeds or not. Spells are purchase just like skills through training points. Mages can only recover mana points through the meditation skill.
Priest
A Priest is an individual trained in the Faith skill. The Faith skill is the prerequisite to casting spells through divine means. Priest are trained by a church through rigorous ceremonies . Individuals normally feel a calling to affiliate with a particular church at a young age. They then under go years of training and conditioning strengthening their will power. Priest cast spells (divine works) by rolling 3d6 + spell level +WP to see if it succeeds or not. Spells are purchased just like skills through training points. Priests can only recover mana points through the ceremony skill.
Minor Magical Effects
A Mage or a Priest can perform minor magical effects without using a spell skill. The Game Mas ter will decide if the effect can be done and the target for success. The skill roll would be Thauma turgy for the Mage and Faith for the Priest. Some examples but not limited too are; lighting a can dle, poking another character across the room to get their attention, or closing a door. The is no
real limit other than the players imagination as long as it does not cause huge effects in the world. IE...Zeckbar wants a book from the top shelf of a book case but does not want to get up and re trieve it himself. The Game Master agrees it is a minor magical effect and sets a target of 12. Zeckbar rolls 3d6 +3(int)+2(Thaumaturgy), 3,2,6,+5=16. Zeckbar succeeded and the book is now on the table in front of him.
The description was not listed on purpose, the “flavor” text can be whatever the player and the Game Master decide. The book might have levitated down, it might have teleported to the table, or a mystical servant may have appeared and retrieved the book. This entire magic system has no “flavor” text and allows the player’s and game master’s imagination unlimited latitude.
